LETTER: Border wall a horrible waste of money

In the 10th day of President Donald Trump’s government shutdown, he and his followers are continuing to howl about how we need border security and how this will be accomplished with his and their dream of a border wall.

Well, I can tell you now that a border wall is not needed.

I lived in California for more than half my life and have relatives who still live there.

They have not been robbed or accosted by Mexicans in more than 60 years, be it by illegal immigrants or not.

My father was a consulting engineer for a company, and he told me many times that among the more than 4,000 people who worked on the assembly line at that plant, a huge majority of them were illegal aliens.

He said that they were the kindest, most generous and hard-working people he had ever known in his life.

I seriously doubt if there was a gang member or drug dealer among them, although our president would want you to think that my father’s company was probably infested with them.

I hope that if you have an intelligent bone in your body, you will continue to object to this horrible waste of money.

The wall is not needed.

Alan Cummings,

Port Angeles
