LETTER: Are we united?

I just returned from Germany after researching in Poland.

At my Berlin hotel, a young Ukrainian and I had several discussions.

Part of her family is in Germany, but her brothers, who are are nearing draft age, must remain in Ukraine.

She is worried they will be harmed.

In my compartment on the train from Poland, a young Polish woman said she’s living in Germany and is afraid to move back to Gdansk because she fears Putin will attack Poland.

I spent a day at the Gdansk War Museum.

Its exit message is: “Links of a Free World. Lessons learned from WWII: United we will defeat evil.”

Are we united?
