It is very appropriate to acknowledge and praise the work that our health care workers do and I hope that appreciation will extend past this epidemic.
I would like to offer an additional shout-out to our teachers.
They are now working from their homes while taking care of their own children 24/7.
Teachers talk about the students in their classrooms as “my kids.”
They worry about some them when they put them on the bus to return to a household where they may not be getting enough food and supervision.
They are now tasked with the job of recreating lesson plans that work online, worrying about the students who have no internet access and wondering what will happen in September.
Changing to teaching online is stressful, time consuming and exhausting.
This is while most have their own children at home that they need to take care of and teach.
Teaching is a very intimate occupation with the total responsibility for the well-being of all of the students in a school and, immediately, for their own classrooms, about seven hours a day, five days a week.
Let’s remember and appreciate what these dedicated professionals are doing.
