LETTER: A modest proposal to help save the environment

Since last year’s election, I have grown weary of the protesting and demonstrating by various groups that can’t seem to articulate their purpose or propose action that would produce a desirable outcome.

Here is a proposal that can be embraced by everyone, including reds and blues, all genders, lesbians, bisexuals, gays, transgenders and even immigrants of all types.

So lay aside your signs, “pussy hats” and gas masks, and join the cause to protect our environment, conserve our forests and save millions of dollars.

Are you pumped?

Pen, paper and markers at the ready?

OK, here it is: We must all take whatever steps are necessary to eliminate the waste associated with return envelopes that will never be used.

For the millions of people like me, who pay their bills online, this empty return envelope is passed from the billing envelope into the trash.

What a waste.

We have the technology to do this.

Therefore, all of us must remain active and vigilant until this abominable practice is abolished.

Let’s get moving.

Bob Richey,

Sequim
