Wearable Art Show presented twice on Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Forty-eight pieces of wearable art will be on display in two shows on Saturday.

The annual event is staged twice in a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening show at Fort Worden’s McCurdy Pavilion in Port Townsend.

“Imagine wildly fantastic art made from fabrics or found materials, intricately crafted and engineered to come alive when modeled on a runway to music,” organizers said in a news release.

“Port Townsend’s Wearable Art Show is a juried spectacle that defies description; one has to see it to believe it.”

General admission is $35. Most premium admission tickets, which are $60, were sold out by Wednesday, said Debbi Steele, founder of the show and of the Jefferson Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls, which the show benefits.

VIP admission, which cost $75 for pre-assigned seating and a complementary drink from Fort Worden’s Taps at the Guardhouse, is sold out, Steele said.

Advance tickets can be purchased at https://www.ptwearableart.com or by calling Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006.

General admission tickets will be available at the door.

Some artists and models will be at the Taps pub after each show so the art can be seen up close and personal.

The show, now in its eighth year, usually makes about $40,000, Steele said.

“We have $350,000 in our endowed fund because of things like this. Our fund keeps growing. It’s because people come and are generous and attend the show. It’s really heart-warming,” Steele said.

More than 100 volunteers help to put on the Wearable Art Show.

The Jefferson Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girl awards grants to local nonprofits whose projects address the issues and serve the needs of women and girls.
