Tickets on sale now for Filharmonic concert

Group from “Pitch Perfect 2” takes Port Angeles High School auditorium stage Jan. 10

PORT ANGELES — Tickets are on sale now for a special joint concert featuring The Filharmonic, a renowned a cappella group.

The Filharmonic, who were featured in NBC’s hit musical competition, “The Sing-Off,” and who appeared in the motion picture “Pitch Perfect 2,” will take the stage at the Port Angeles High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Jan. 10.

The concert at the high school at 304 E. Park Ave., is a joint effort between the Peninsula College Associated Student Council and the Port Angeles High School choir.

Tickets purchased prior to Dec. 25 are $20. The cost after Dec. 26 is $25 and $30 at the door.

The show is underwritten by the ASC, so current Peninsula College students and current PAHS choir students receive free admission.

Advance tickets are available online.

Internationally known

“I’m very excited about bringing such a huge, popular group to our college,” said Elita Nivens, Peninsula College student body vice president.

“It’s always been a hope of mine to fund a large event and draw in more of the community and call attention to PC,” continued Nivens, who oversees student programming.

“My hope is that the good experiences and attention that The Filharmonic will bring will even draw more people to our future events as well.”

Filharmonic, based in Los Angeles, is an a cappella group of Filipino-American singers that was in the semifinals of The Sing-Off and participated in the NBC show’s national tour.

The group also appeared in Pitch Perfect 2, which then landed it on stage at the Late, Late Show, where the performance went viral.

The group featuring Jules Cruz (vocal bass), Joe Caigoy (tenor), Trace Gaynor (tenor), Niko Del Rey (beat boxer) and VJ Rosales (tenor), was the No. 1 most booked college show in America in 2016, organizers said.

“I’m grateful to the PAHS choir for collaborating with us to host this event,” Nivens said. “This will benefit both PC and PAHS, as it brings more attention to their program and it will also allow us to host the concert in a bigger auditorium.”

Filharmonic performed before a sold-out audience at the College’s Little Theater in March 2016.

Return visit

“People have been talking about that show ever since,” said Rick Ross, associate dean for athletics and student life.

“This year, ASC coordinator Jeremiah Johnson and his student programmers decided to explore a larger venue so more students and community members might have the opportunity to see them.”

Following their appearance in Port Angeles, the Filharmonic Tour will take the singers to Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Calif., Ashland University in Ohio and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, to name a few.
