Tall ship visit, charity car show among Peninsula attractions

A tall ship visit, a charity car show and a ham radio course are among upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

SEQUIM

Lady Washington visit

SEQUIM — Lady Washington, the state’s official tall ship, will visit John Wayne Marina from Thursday through Sunday, July 23.

Family-oriented Adventure Sails will be offered, featuring a living history experience with demonstrations of tall ship handling, sea shanty singing and maritime storytelling.

Tickets are $49 and are required for passengers, including babes in arms. Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Movie series

SEQUIM — Witness an alien invasion today at the Sequim Library, 630 N Sequim Ave.

The library’s Family Movie Series kicks off with a screening of “Chicken Little” today at 2 p.m.

From now until Aug. 18, the series will provide out-of-the-sun, free entertainment at 2 pm. every Friday with snacks and movie trivia to boot.

Guild thrift shop

SEQUIM — The Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild Thrift Shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The shop at 204 W. Bell St. will feature furniture, pictures and accessories, summer clothing, kitchenware, designer handbags, jewelry, books and puzzles.

All white-tagged items will be marked half-price.

Soul Posse at Grange

SEQUIM — A Port Townsend band, Soul Posse, will perform from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road.

Cost is $10 per person; food is provided.

Fly-fishing meeting

SEQUIM — The Sequim Greywolf Fly-Fishers will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.

The gathering will open with a brief business meeting, after which reports of fishing at local lakes and favorite flies that successfully catch fish will be heard.

The remainder of the meeting will be reserved for individual fly-tying.

Those interested in participating are asked to bring their own equipment and materials.

A fly raffle also will be held.

Reducing anxiety class

SEQUIM — Doug Blessington, MS, LMHCA, a licensed mental health counselor associate, will offer “5 Strategies to Reduce Anxiety” from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The lecture will be at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

In this free interactive event, attendees will learn five tools to reduce anxiety.

Charity car show

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Dream Machines will host its annual Charity Car Show from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Entry is $20 per car and free for spectators to the event at the Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road.

The first 100 car entries will receive a goody bag and dashboard plaque.

Proceeds from the event benefit the grange’s structural maintenance costs.

PORT ANGELES — The public is invited to The Answer for Youth’s [TAFY] Family Garden Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Free hot dogs, condiments and sodas will available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while speakers present about gardening, as well as cooking and growing vegetables.

Pour Sip Paint event

PORT ANGELES — A “Pour Sip Paint” class from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday will raise money for Port Angeles High School band members Jordyn and Jenna Gates to travel to Washington D.C.

The fundraiser night will be at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave.

Admission of $35 covers the cost of instruction from a local artist, painting supplies and one alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage.

Free tennis camp

PORT ANGELES — A free tennis camp for eighth-graders and high school boys will start Monday and run through July 28 at the Port Angeles High School tennis courts.

Incoming freshmen instruction is from 9 a.m. to noon and for others from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is not needed. Participants can just show up at the courts at the high school at 304 E. Park Ave.

Buffet luncheon

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Christian Women’s Connection will host a buffet luncheon at the Port Angeles CrabHouse restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

For $18 attendees can partake in the luncheon at the CrabHouse, 221 N. Lincoln St.

The event will feature a speaker and Marilyn McNamara will provide entertainment.

Jamie Lawrence will present a speech, “Color Me Beautiful.”

Roughriders camp set

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School football coaching staff and Roughrider players will hold their third annual summer football skills camp Tuesday through Friday, July 21.

Skills include blocking, tackling, throwing, catching, kicking, conditioning and basic football strategies.

The camp will be held on the Port Angeles High School fields west of the gym. Camp for current Roughrider players will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Camp for future Roughriders, ages 6 to 14, will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The registration fee for Future Riders is $40, which includes a 2017 camp T-shirt.

The fee for Future Riders can be pro-rated if players can attend all four days. PAHS Booster Club members will be on site to register future Roughriders each day by 10 a.m.

To avoid the registration line, camp registration forms are available in the Port Angeles High School weight room from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday, at the school district office, New Day Eatery and Fanaticus.

Free tax workshop

PORT ANGELES — The state Department of Tax Revenue will host a free tax workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

New and small business owners are encouraged to attend the meeting in Clallam County Transit System’s conference room, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements.

Additionally, attendees will receive a workbook and reference guide to the department’s rules and regulations.

Attendees may earn two continuing professional education credits.

PORT ANGELES — The Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County will convene to review the goals set at the Annual Planning Forum on Ending Homelessness at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Sign-in begins at 9:45 a.m., and the meeting will adjourn at 11:30 a.m.

The meeting will be devoted to a conversation about the role of the network in human services and going forward to accomplish the goals identified during the planning forum.

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson Land Trust will host a volunteer event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Illahee Preserve on Chimacum Creek.

Directions to the preserve are “from state Route 19 — between Port Hadlock and Port Townsend — turn onto Prospect Avenue towards Kala Point. Take Creekview Lane – the first road to the right – and follow to the end of the road, then park at the split-rail fence,” according to a news release.

Tools and gloves will be provided.

Volunteers can stay for any length of time.

Reader’s Theater is designed to get participants on their feet by converting books into plays performed on the spot in a group effort.

Ham radio course

FORKS — Want to communicate in the event of an emergency or chat with ham radio operators across the world?

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office will offer a free ham radio technician course at Beaver Station, 196281 U.S. Highway 101, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A $15 fee covers the test materials required to become licensed. The course will also provide license study guides.

Tuesday bingo

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will host bingo games at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Early bird sessions will start at 6:30 p.m. with regular bingo games at 7 p.m. at the lodge, 941 Merchants Road.

Logging tour

FORKS — The Forks Logging and Mill Tour will feature the West End’s roots in trees and the logging industry Wednesday.

The tour leaves at 8:45 a.m. from the Forks Visitor Information Center at 1411 S. Forks Ave., and returns at noon. Participants are urged to arrive 15 minutes early for registration.

The tours, which continue through Sept. 6 each Wednesday, are free but donations are accepted. The tours are sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce and made possible by donations from many local businesses and tour participants.

Appropriate footwear, such as boots or sneakers, are required. Cameras are allowed. Children older than 8 are welcome.

The tours are limited to 12 people so reservations are recommended.
