Storytellers, listeners wanted at Sequim slam

SEQUIM — The next Out Loud Story Slam is set for this Friday and storytellers of any experience level are invited.

This monthly event will start at 7 p.m. at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., with hosts Nessa Goldman and Jeanné Sparks.

The theme this time: Growth. Storytellers are encouraged to create true personal stories around that idea, in any way they interpret it; maximum story-slam length is five minutes.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with admission at $10. To purchase tickets online, see olympictheatrearts.org.

“Just when it seems like we might be coming out of this pandemic, let’s take a minute to reflect on all the change we’ve seen, and hopefully all the growth we’ve experienced,” Sparks and Goldman write in their press release.

“Growth is uncomfortable. Growth can be painful. But one thing is for certain, growth changes us. And we can’t wait to hear about your transformation,” they add.

On Friday evening, prospective storytellers will drop their names into a bag, and those whose names are drawn get to step up onto the stage.

“Of course, we need an audience, and everyone is welcome to come to listen; there is no pressure to be a teller,” the hosts write.

Tellers are also urged to contact the Out Loud Story Slam crew ahead of time, for guidance. Volunteers are also needed.

For more information, see the Out Loud Story Slam page on Facebook.
