Stars of Tomorrow to shine Sunday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Children from kindergartners through high school seniors will perform at the Port Townsend Kiwanis Club’s 30th annual Stars of Tomorrow show from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The show will be in the Port Townsend High School auditorium, 1500 Van Ness St.

Tickets are $7 and available only at the door.

“It’s a lot of fun. It makes you feel like they are all your kids and you are so proud of them,” said Mary Crozier, chairwoman of the event.

About 30 children will perform this year, she said.

“Most of it is singing,” she said, along with “piano playing, a couple of dancers, one drummer and a stand-up comedy routine.”

Performers are divided into three divisions: Presentation Division, which is noncompetitive, for elementary school students in kindergarten through sixth grade; Junior Division for seventh through ninth grades; and Senior Division for juniors and seniors in high school.

Scholarships will be awarded in the Junior and Senior divisions to first-, second- and third-place winners.

Scholarships in the Senior Division are $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

In the Junior Division, they are $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $150 for third place.

Public, private or home-schooled students throughout East Jefferson County were encouraged to participate.

Kiwanis volunteers will work behind the scenes for the show.

Peter Wiant will film performances and the video will be posted on YouTube and the Stars of Tomorrow Facebook page, Crozier said.

The annual show “gives the kids a chance to perform without anything too stressful,” Crozier said.

“A lot of kids who take lessons all the time don’t have an avenue to perform.”
