Spring days, nights fill with art, music

Activities set on Peninsula this weekend

As April hits full swing, it’s filling up with performances to attend, art shows to see and local bands to hear. In just the next few days, the offerings range from a flamenco show in Port Townsend to a wet-felting demonstration in Port Angeles.

Here are highlights of this weekend — and beyond — on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Live music infuses Finnriver Farm & Cidery three times this weekend: Singer-songwriter Kristin Myers brings her lighthearted style in from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight, and then FarmStrong, a country band based in Sequim, arrives for a show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Beleza, a jazz duo featuring Dmitri Matheny and John Stowell, is slated for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

All shows are for all ages at Finnriver, 124 Center Road, Chimacum.

• The trio Kozmopolis will dish up European folk, Parisian swing and other music from around the globe during its Port Townsend Farmers Market gig this Saturday.

The band — featuring Phina Pipia, Jane Freeburg and Kozmo — is set to play from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the market on the 600 block of Tyler Street in Uptown Port Townsend.

A New Perspective” is the title of the Second Weekend art event Saturday and Sunday at Studio Bob, upstairs at 118½ E. Front St., Port Angeles.

In this show, artists Lance and Haley Snider lay out their work in the spacious gallery while the band Tin Sandwich plays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The show goes on with another public reception from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, while both Studio Bob openings are free with all ages welcome.

Refreshments are available for purchase in the bar beside the gallery.

To find out more, see the “Studiobobupstairs” page on Facebook or studio_bob on Instagram.

• Cabled Fiber and Yarn will host an exhibit of wet felting techniques — including wet-felted scarves and bowls — from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday during downtown Port Angeles’ Second Weekend art walk.

Shop owner MarySue French will give a demonstration of this ancient technique at the store, 125 W. First St.

For details see www.cabledfiber.com.

• Rock and blues covers plus original songs by the band 4D are on tap Saturday at the Keg & I in Chimacum.

There’s indoor seating for vaccinated customers as well as the patio for anybody 21 and older; music flows from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1291 Chimacum Road.

• The Soulshakers, a venerable blues band, storms into the New Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles, on Saturday night.

Music and dancing will roll on from 8 p.m. till about 11:30 p.m.

• The Sound Advice band featuring Dawn Martin will play Motown, classic soul and rock’n’roll this Sunday at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim.

It’s all dance music, Martin promises, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. As is typical with the Sunday dances, there will be a cover charge.

• Jack Dwyer, singer of blues, country, bluegrass and swing, arrives at Manresa Castle’s Rook lounge this Sunday.

He’ll bring his voice, guitar, banjo and mandolin for a gig from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the castle, 651 Cleveland St., Port Townsend.

• Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes and guitarist-singer Diego Amador Jrwill bring their new show, “Eterno, El Flamenco Vive,” to the Palindrome at Eaglemount Winery this Monday evening.

This performance, part of Fuentes and Amador’s western states tour, will begin at 8 p.m. at the venue at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road, Port Townsend. Tickets are priced on a sliding scale.
