Sequim City Band plays up ‘Disney’

SEQUIM — It’s time to break out those favorite Disney costumes.

The Sequim City Band will present “A Disney Spectacular,” an afternoon of live music highlighting favorites from the company’s classic movies, starting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the James Center for the Performing Arts, 350 N. Blake Ave., just north of Carrie Blake Community Park.

The concert is free and under the direction of Tyler Benedict. Attendees are encouraged to bring light refreshments and a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the lawn.

All children are encouraged to wear a costume of any character — a pirate, a princess, a prince, a candlestick, a cowboy, an African animal, a sorcerer or any other — from a Disney movie.

The children will be invited to dance and march on the paved section in front of the stage as the band plays some favorite music.

Included will be music from classic Disney films such as “The Jungle Book,” the original “Mary Poppins,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin,” plus “The Lion King, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Fantasia,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Frozen.”

Free on-site parking is available; enter the park from North Blake Avenue at East Fir Street.

Upcoming concerts for the band’s “Concerts at the James” series include July 4 (“Patriotic 4th”), Aug. 18 (“Movies, Musicals and Marches”) and Sept. 15 (“American Melodies”).

All shows start at 3 p.m.
