PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will host a reception for Kevin Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The reception will be at Sound Community Bank from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and then it will move into the league’s gallery for the second hour. Both are located at 9500 Oak Bay Road.
The league is exhibiting Hall’s black and white photography and the jewelry of Janice Gruber during April.
Hall said color-saturated photographs often can distract the eye because there’s simply too much information. For that reason, Hall chooses to use light and dark imagery to allow viewers to interpret the main focus of his photographs.
“Elliott Erwitt once said, ‘Color is descriptive. Black and White is interpretive,’” Hall said. “You’re invited to interpret my art exhibit to determine if Erwitt knew what he was talking about.”
Gruber uses hand-blown glass beads and precious stones including variscite, pendritic opal and black obsidian crystals in her jewelry.
The league’s gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
