Olympic Theatre Arts schedules auditions for upcoming shows

SEQUIM — Olympic Theatre Arts has announced auditions for three upcoming productions playing early in 2018.

Directors Britni Alleman-DeLorenzi and Josh Sutcliffe host auditions for both “Tuesdays with Morrie” and “Time Stands Still” at 2 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The directors decided to combine their auditions to give greater opportunities for interested actors.

Auditions for “Shakespeare on Love,” a staged reading to be performed on Valentine’s Day and directed by Rich Hendrickson, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

“Tuesdays with Morrie” is based on the best-selling memoir written by Mitch Albom about his encounter with former college professor Morrie Schwartz during the educator’s final weeks of life. It’s a poignant journey punctuated with humor and valued memories. Mitch is presented as a 37-year-old who must be able to play the piano well. Morrie will be played as a 78-year-old and must be able to dance — rather eccentrically, according to Alleman-DeLorenzi.

This second stage production will be presented in the Gathering Hall at OTA for two weekends, Jan. 19-28. Rehearsals will begin Nov. 27.

“Time Stands Still” is a dramatic chronicle of two journalists returning from war and struggling with emotional adjustment. The journalists will be played as a male and female, both in their late 30s to early 40s. In addition, there will be one male cast to play a 55-year-old photo editor and one female cast to play a 25-year-old event planner. Sutcliffe will begin rehearsals in November, with the play running Feb. 9-25.

‘Shakespeare on Love’

“Shakespeare on Love” is a one-performance-only staged reading featuring excerpts from various William Shakespeare writings, all on the theme of “love.” Male and female actors of all ages are invited to audition.

All auditions will be held at the OTA Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave., where the directors will supply materials from the scripts for actors to use in performing cold readings.

The OTA business office has available copies of the scripts for actors to borrow in advance. The business office is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

For more information or to schedule an alternate audition date, call the theater office at 360-683-7326.
