FUNKWAYS to host benefit concert Saturday

PORT ANGELES — FUNKWAYS will perform a benefit concert for the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation and the Surfrider Foundation at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The benefit will begin in the Donna M. Morris Theater at Field Arts and Events Hall, 201 W. Front St.

Following the show, FUNKWAYS will move upstairs to the Sunset Bar and Lounge for a deep funk dance party and jam session that will begin at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for the theater show, $18 for the after party or $30 for both at www.fieldhallevents.org/tickets.

FUNKWAYS was founded by local composer and trumpet player Joel “Lucky Brown” Ricci.

“FUNKWAYS’ mission is to commemorate, celebrate and consecrate True Soul music as played from the heart, and to engender cultural health by promoting greater neighborhood social cohesion through the ancient practice of collective dance and community voice-raising,” Ricci said.

The Sunset Bar and Lounge will open at 5 p.m. and will remain open to serve food and drinks through both performances; last call will be at 10 p.m.

No tickets are required to enjoy the Sunset Lounge pre-show from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
