COYLE — The rich, dark, vibrating sound of multiple cellos playing folk, classical and popular pieces will be heard at Concerts in the Woods at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The all-ages concert will be at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.
Admission is by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission to guests.
Priscilla Jones organizes the group called Cello Mania, which is composed of some adult cellists and some cello students who enjoy getting together to play the instrument they love in an ensemble, said Norm Johnson, series organizer.
“It’s a unique sound and an opportunity for the audience to hear what a cello combo sounds like,” Johnson said.
Performing on Sunday will be Jones, who is from Bainbridge Island; Peggy Thurston of Poulsbo; and Taekyung Hill of Port Orchard. They may be joined by other cello enthusiasts.
“This will be the fourth appearance of Cello Mania in Coyle with different players and a different selection of music each time,” Johnson said.
“It’s unusual to hear cellos playing together without the other parts of an orchestra or quartet, but the sound is definitely pleasing.”
