Benefit concert planned on Leap Day in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend’s Ladies’ Chamber Orchestra and Benevolent Society plans a benefit concert on Leap Day.

The concert will be presented at the First Baptist Church, 1202 Lawrence St., beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is by free-will donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the winter shelter provided by the Community Outreach Association Shelter Team (COAST), an organization based in Port Townsend.

The orchestra will perform a selection of chamber music from the Renaissance period through modern times.

The work of William Byrd, Johann Mattheson, Arcangelo Corelli, Franz Joseph Haydn and other composers will be performed by full and partial ensembles, and the performance will include a brief intermission.

The Ladies’ Chamber Orchestra and Benevolent Society is an ensemble of strings (violins, violas, cellos and violas da gamba), recorders and keyboards (piano and harpsichord).

It was formed by Dahti Blanchard in 2016 to showcase the talent and expertise of musicians in Port Townsend and vicinity.
