Artwork from exhibit to be auctioned for Youth Art Education

PORT ANGELES — Five pieces of artwork by Jyoti Duwadi will be available for purchase at an online auction from 12:01 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. May 26.

The auction can be accessed at https://pafac.betterworld.org/auctions/jyoti-duwadi; there also will be a bidding station in the gallery for those who prefer to view the pieces in person.

The pieces are part of Duwadi’s exhibit, “Reimagining the Intersection of Art & Environment — Exploring Natural & Repurposed Materials,” which is on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at the Port Angeles Fine Art Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., until May 26.

Duwadi donated pieces from the exhibit to the auction and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the center’s youth art education programs.

“The donation of these incredible artworks is a huge gift to our organization, and we are deeply grateful for Jyoti’s generosity and commitment to Youth Art Education,” said Stacey Rekkedahl, the center’s gallery and programs director. “We are hopeful that art appreciators on the Peninsula and beyond will help us reach our fundraising goal in order to support access to the arts for our youngest community members.”

The PAFAC partners with local schools to offer classroom arts education, free school field trips and to provide free or low-cost arts education opportunities throughout the year.

In the past year, they provided more than 150 hours of education to 14 local classrooms, sponsored field trips for 19 classes and have engaged with more than 1,000 students through their programs, arts stations, workshops and summer camps.

The center spends about $73,000 annually on youth programs and hopes to raise at least $7,000 through the auction.
