Artist, printer to discuss reduction linocut technique

PORT TOWNSEND — Seattle designer, illustrator and letterpress printer Sarah Kulfan of Beans ‘n Rice Creative Studio will come to Port Townsend to talk about her work at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Kulfan will discuss her reduction linoleum cuts techniques in a presentation to the Northwind Book Arts Group at Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St. A reduction linocut can include as many as 10 impressions, some of which involve graduated color.

Her print, “Clallam Co.,” was recently juried into Hamilton Wood Type’s “New Impressions 2018,” an international competition.

The Northwind Book Arts Group is dedicated to exploring and cultivating contemporary aesthetic interpretations of the book as art, while preserving the traditional practices involved in the creations of books and while providing a forum for exchange among fine printers, typographers, binders and artists in and around Port Townsend and the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas.

The group is open to all with an interest in artist’s books, fine printing and paper.

For more information, email Ellie Mathews at book arts@northwindarts.org or go to northwindarts.org/ programs/northwind-book-arts-group.
