Art show, silent auction slated for weekend

SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Art Association will host its annual Members’ Show and Silent Auction Fundraiser today, Saturday and Sunday.

The public is welcome to the show in the council room at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., and the event is free.

The show and fundraiser is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

An artist reception is set from 5 to 8 tonight with a ribbon-cutting by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce at 5 p.m. to celebrate the group’s name change from Sequim Arts to Olympic Peninsula Art Association. It is also the group’s 49th year in operation.

Many of the art pieces in the show will be for sale. A portion of the sales will go toward the group’s various projects.

Among the many items up for bid in the silent auction will be round-trip tickets to Victoria from Black Ball Ferry Line; rounds of golf at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course and Sunland Golf and Country Club; and certificates for Chestnut Cottage, Alderwood Bistro, Oak Table and Olympic Game Farm. Other auction donors include Strait Flooring, Clear Image Custom Framing, Les Schwab, B&B Family Lavender Farm and Swain’s General Store.

Each year, the art association provides programs and demonstrations, offers financial assistance to local area schools for art programs and holds a members’ exhibit.

The group also awards scholarships each year to graduating seniors who are interested in pursuing art as a career.
