Art conversation Thursday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — “Below the Equator,” “Low Tide” and “Sweet Slumber” are among the titles of artworks by Shirley Scheier, the Port Townsend painter and printmaker whose new exhibition is titled “Sifting the Silence.”

Surrounded by her pieces, Scheier will give a free talk at 7 p.m. Thursday at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St.

Scheier, who has done artist residencies and shown her work around the world, will discuss her inspirations and her unusual creative process, which involves using nets to gather and cast colors onto her canvases. Her talk will be an interview format with Meg Kaczyk, also a Port Townsend artist; the two will encourage audience questions.

Everyone is welcome at this event. More information about Northwind Art’s activities and classes can be found at www.northwind art.org.
