Two charged after summer gun theft from Clallam County Sheriff’s Office employees

PORT ANGELES — Two people accused in the theft of firearms from the home of two Clallam County Sheriff’s Office employees over the summer have been charged in Clallam County Superior Court.

Davian Wood, 19, appeared in court Monday after being arrested over the weekend on two warrants, one of which is related to a homicide in Kitsap County. He has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm in Clallam County and in Kitsap County.

Arden Desha, who court papers say discussed the theft with Wood, has a warrant out for his arrest. He has been charged with residential burglary, theft of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.

Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly ordered Wood held in the Clallam County jail on $10,000 bail.

Two department-issued Glock 22 .40 caliber pistols — since recovered — were stolen from the home of Sgt. John Hollis and Corrections Deputy Elizabeth Hollis on June 29. Also stolen were a Ruger 1911-style .45 caliber pistol and an antique Walther PPK .380 caliber pistol.

They had left town for a day and when they returned they discovered their guns had been stolen, court papers say.

The first Glock was recovered during an Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team raid on a home on North Larch Avenue east of Port Angeles in July and the second was recovered in September after a stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.

Desha, who law enforcement says was driving that vehicle, is also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. His next court hearing for that case is set for 1 p.m. Dec. 13.

Police say they learned through interviews that Wood had attempted to sell one of the Glocks to someone for $400 and that he knew another was on its way to Bremerton to be sold.

A person told law enforcement that he had received information from someone who was afraid to come forward officially about Wood’s involvement in the theft, records say.

That person said that Davian was a part of “G Gang,” which was more of an organized crime ring than a gang, according to a police report.

Kitsap charge

Wood is also charged in Kitsap County Superior Court with possession of a stolen firearm and is held in the Clallam County jail on a $100,000 warrant.

Joseph Armas, 22, who is jailed for first-degree manslaughter and possession of stolen firearms in the Nov. 4 shooting of his 20-year-old girlfriend Ashlee McClelland, told detectives “Dave” had brought four stolen firearms to his apartment, including two rifles and two pistols.

Law enforcement recovered a stolen Remington bolt action hunting rifle and a stolen Springfield M1A rifle from the apartment, court papers say. They also recovered a stolen handgun from the vehicle.

Both department-issued guns from the Clallam County theft had already been recovered before the shooting.

Armas said he was trying to unload the bolt action rifle when it went off, court papers say.

Court papers say Port Orchard Police first learned of the shooting when an officer made contact with a car at the Harrison Urgent Care facility in Port Orchard that had failed to stop for a stop sign.

Armas asked the officer to help McClelland, who had been shot in the chest. While the officer was helping, Wood walked away from the vehicle, court records say.
