PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man convicted in November on drug charges has been sentenced to three years in prison plus one year of state Department of Corrections supervision, according to the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team.
Joshua E. Dickinson, 37, of Sequim was sentenced in Clallam County Superior Court on Dec. 6 after he was found guilty during a trial the week of Nov. 6 of two counts of delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl) two counts of possession with intent to deliver (fentanyl and methamphetamine) and one count of delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He also was found guilty of four sentencing enhancements for conduct within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop.
Dickinson will serve his sentence at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
OPNET detectives arrested Dickinson on multiple charges on Sept. 21, 2022, and booked him into the Clallam County jail, the press release said.
In summer 2022, OPNET used a confidential informant to buy fentanyl from Dickinson on multiple occasions, including one transaction involving methamphetamine, detectives said.
Dickinson also was carrying a firearm.
On Sept. 21, 2022, Dickinson was arrested without incident by OPNET members in the parking lot of a hotel in the 800 block of East Washington Street, according to the release. A search of Dickinson’s vehicle, possessions and hotel room uncovered an estimated 468 fentanyl pills with an estimated street value of $2,300, an estimated 6.5 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $130, a scale, an undisclosed amount of cash and a 9mm handgun.
OPNET was assisted in the arrest by the Sequim Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
OPNET Detective Sgt. Josh Powless wrote in the release: “Clallam County continues to be among counties in Washington state with the highest overdose rates per capita. Fentanyl and methamphetamine continue to be large contributors to these death rates.”
According to the Clallam County Coroner’s Office, Clallam County has had 27 confirmed drug overdose deaths in 2023 and 19 more suspected cases pending confirmation.
