PHOTO: Chain gang dismantles nuisance RVs near Port Angeles

The shattered remains of an abandoned recreational vehicle await final demolition as members of the Clallam County Jail’s Chain Gang dismantle a second RV on Thursday at a vacant lot at Bayview Avenue and Kemp Street east of Port Angeles.

Deputy Nate Pence said the gang had previously removed more than 2,500 pounds of debris from the vehicles and were removing windows before the hulls were crushed by a front loader for easier disposal.

The stripped chassis of the RVs were to be taken to Fred’s Auto Wrecking in Port Angeles for eventual disposal, he said.

The RVs were considered an attractive nuisance and were demolished because of complaints and rising crime in the area, the sheriff’s office said.
