SEATTLE — The Seattle Wine Awards has bestowed a Double Gold Award to the 2019 Estate Madeleine Angevine from the Port Townsend Vineyards.
The light white wine is made from grapes grown at the vineyard’s original estate on Portuguese Hill in Port Townsend.
Owners Jens and Karle Coppenrath credit viticulturist Alex Moro, winemaker Ben Thomas and the production team at their Sims Way winery.
According to a press release, the Madeleine Angevine varietal comes from the Loire Valley of France and grows well in the cool climate of the Puget Sound.
The winery at 2640 W. Sims Way is open from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
