STATE 2A TENNIS: Sequim’s Dietzman, Wiker finish second in the state

Peninsula Daily News

SEATTLE — The Sequim doubles’ team of Jessica Dietzman and Kali Wiker finished second at the state 2A championship Saturday.

Dietzman and Wiker lost at the Nordstrom Tennis Center to the team of Nina Vongsaly and Katrina Kuntz from Sammamish by the score of 6-3, 6-3. It was the first match the Sequim duo had lost all year.

Dietzman and Wiker won three matches at state en route to the title match. They first beat the team of Maya Becerra and Anna Marie Rutherford of Sedro-Woolley 6-0, 6-2 on Friday. In the second round Friday, they beat Megan Wilks and Mya Davis of W.F. West 6-2, 6-1.

In the state 2A semifinal Saturday, Dietzman and Wiker beat Isla Hall and Sydney Leiweke of Sehome 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

That match was the first time that Dietzman and Wiker, winners of the Olympic 2A League championship and the West Central District II championship, have lost a set the entire season as a team.

Emily Shaleen and Lily Beaulieu of Kingston, whom Dietzman and Wiker beat at districts, finished third at the 2A state tournament.
