Leonard named NW Player of the Week

JOYCE — Crescent’s Noah Leonard was selected as a MaxPreps/USA Football Player of the Week for the Pacific Northwest for the week of Oct. 1 to Oct. 8.

Leonard was picked for his Oct. 3 game against Clallam Bay. He had 24 tackles, 11 of them solo, five tackles for losses, two quarterback sacks and three forced fumbles.

Leonard, who made the Class B all-state last year, followed up that performance with a huge offensive game against the Forks JV squad Saturday. Leonard gained 263 yards on 18 carries, scoring three touchdowns on the ground. He also caught a 49-yard touchdown pass for 312 total yards from scrimmage.

Frosty Moss

PORT ANGELES — A new midwinter event will join the ranks of the OAT and GOAT runs and the Big Hurt with the inaugural Frosty Moss Olympic Discovery relay race.

The event will be held Feb. 23, 2019 from the Sol Duc River to Blyn. The 80-mile course combines trail and road running, following the paved Olympic Discovery Trail and a single-track Olympic Adventure Route between the Elwha River and Lake Crescent.

Event registration has already begun and there are only 11 team spots left. Teams can have between three to five people and must be able to average 12 minutes a mile.

Some of the Discovery Trail legs are fairly flat whereas some the Adventure Trail sections are pretty hilly, gaining as much as 1,300 feet of elevation.

There will be an after-race party and local brews.
