PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys swim team won its first dual meet of the season as seniors were honored for the last home meet of the year.

The Roughriders outpointed Klahowya 94-82 in Thursday’s meet.

Port Angeles collected three new individual district qualifying times, as Cameron Butler came up with a lifetime best in the 500 freestyle with a time of five minutes, 5.44 seconds, finishing first in the event. That was also a state qualifying time.

Butler also finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.11. Henry Shaw also won two events — the 200 freestyle in 2:11.44 and the 100 butterfly in 1:07.23. He also qualified for district in both events.

Also finishing first in their events were:

• Matthew Craig, 1-meter diving, 177.10 points

• 400 freestyle (Martin, Henry Shaw, Butler, Hertzog), 3:53.54.

Hertzog also qualified for district with a time of 2:20.78 in the 200 IM, good for third place.

Port Angeles recognized five seniors on the team — Craig (a Sequim co-op team member), Kelly MacIntosh-Ryan, Haylen Gerhard, Nate Toscano and Aldair Rivas.

The Riders’ next meet is 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sequim YMCA.
