PREP GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles gymnasts outpoint Kingston

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles gymnastics team began its season with a win over Kingston, outpointing the Buccaneers 137.6 to 111.15.

The Port Angeles team this year has five competitors from Sequim and one from Crescent High School. Students from all three schools compete as a member of the Port Angeles team during the regular season, but in the postseason will compete separately.

The Roughriders didn’t pick up any first against Kingston, but did pick up five second-place finishes.

Anne Edwards was second in the all-around with 28.45 points. She was also second in the bars with a 6.45.

Also finishing second were Sequim’s Emma Sharp in the vault with an 8.2, Sequim’s Lesae Pfeffer in the beam with a 7.35 and Aiesha LaTourette in the floor with an 8.0.

Other girls placing include:

• Vault — Mei Ying Harper-Smith, third, 8.0; Pfeffer and Edwards, third, fourth, 7.9; LaTourette, fifth, 7.8; Brooklynne Jacobs, seventh, 6.4

• Bars — Harper-Smith, fourth, 5.4; Danica Pierson (Sequim), fifth, 5.15; LaTourette, sixth, 5.1; Sharp, seventh, 4.7.

• Beam — Sharp, third, 6.85; Pierson and Edwards, fifth, 6.10; LaTourette, sixth, 5.5; Lisi Hansen, seventh, 5.10.

• Floor — Pfeffer and Edwards, third, 8.0; Sharp, fourth, 7.9; Harper-Smith, seventh, 6.7.

• All Around — Sharp, third, 27.95; Pfeffer, fourth, 27.3; LaTourette, fifth, 26.6.

The gymnasts will next compete Jan. 5 at the Sehome Invitational.
