SEQUIM — Sequim upset N0. 9 ranked North Kitsap 16-14 Friday on the strength of three Riley Cowan field goals and a 26-yard Cowan to Kyler Rollness touchdown pass as the Wolves knocked off the Vikings for the first time since 2010.

Cowan, who doubles as Sequim’s punter and kicker when not taking snaps, had a magnificent night on special teams.
Five of North Kitsap’s offensive possessions began inside their own 10-yard line. Three coming on coffin-corner punts expertly placed by Cowan and two more on risk/reward kickoffs aimed to fall in along the Vikings sideline.
Sequim led 10-7 at half and chased down North Kitsap quarterback Andrew Blackwell repeatedly in the second half on play-action bootleg passes while bottling up powerful Vikings running back Isaiah Kahana.
Taig Wiker ran hard for the Wolves and Ben Cowan was a force on the defensive side of the ball in the big win.
The Wolves (1-0, 3-0) host North Mason (1-0, 3-0) for Homecoming next Friday. The Bulldogs edged Olympic 51-47 Friday.

KINGSTON — The Roughriders’ offense got untracked and Port Angeles picked up its first win of the season in convincing fashion on the road in its Olympic League 2A Division opener.
Brenden Roloson-Hines threw two touchdown passes, a 19-yard TD to Tyler Bowen and a 24-yarder to Garrett Edwards and also ran in another score from 6 yards out to power the Riders.
Edwards also forced a fumble and recovered it for a touchdown defensively in the win.
Port Angeles (1-0, 1-2) steps out of league play to host Class 1A powerhouse Montesano at Civic Field on Friday.
