Ritter holes out

Sequim’s Grant Ritter notched his second career hole-in-one with an ace during the first round of The Cedars at Dungeness’ Senior Club Championship.

Ritter singled on the 137-yard fourth hole using a Titleist Pro-V1 ball and his Wilson Staff Ci-9 8-iron.

Sequim’s Brian Anderson and Tom Flach witnessed Ritter’s shot.

Nice shooting, Grant.

Sunland women

Sunland Women’s Golf Association has had an active June and will cap the month with its annual War of the Roses Tournament over the weekend — a two-day tournament with teams of two women facing teams of two men in a two-day tournament.

A best ball format will open play with the second day a High/High, Low/Low event in which every score counts with the women and men’s highest and lowest net scores are counted against each other.

Sunland’s women won the event in 2018 and are out for a repeat.

Earlier in the month, SWGA celebrated its past captains with a golf tournament and luncheon. Thirty members played in a three-person modified scramble. Teams were so perfectly matched up that there were three teams tied for first place at 6-under-par and four teams tied for fourth place with a 5-under-par score.

Fifteen past captains were in attendance with all but three playing in the tournament. A luncheon featuring chicken fettuccine alfredo was enjoyed and a cactus plant was given to each past captain.

Sunland also held its Member/Member Tournament earlier in June with 26 ladies in competition. Happily, sunny weather prevailed. The format for this three-day tournament was a Horserace, Best Ball, and Chapman. Bobbie Piety and Judy Nordyke won both the Horserace and the overall first place low gross position. Nonie Dunphy and Kathleen Dejong won overall low net.
