GOLF: Celebrating a birthday with a hole-in-one

PENINSULA GOLF CLUB member Lori Hope Mitrovich received a belated birthday present in the form of her first-ever hole-in-one.

Playing in a group with Kathy Thorne, Gary Thorne and her husband Mark Mitrovich, she used a Ping 9-iron and a Titleist Pro V1X with a ladybug logo to hole out on the 105-yard par-3 fourth hole at Peninsula Golf Club back on Oct. 30, two days after Mitrovich’s 57th birthday.

Mitrovich recently waged a successful nine-month battle with ovarian cancer, with the cancer now in remission.

Congrats, Lori!

New Year’s Shootout

Peninsula Golf Club members and guests rang in the New Year with a round in sunny and clear conditions last Saturday.

Mark Mitrovich and Gary Thorne teamed to win the Gross title with a score of 61, besting Mitrovich’s former Port Angeles High School prodigy Alex Atwell and his playing partner Steve Nichols by three strokes.

Mike Dupuis and Gerald Petersen tied with Ryan Seiler and Peninsula pro Chad Wagner at 65.

The team of Brian Boone and Jered Pomeroy tied with Tom Hainstock and Steve Main for the Low Net title (53).

Mitrovich said Wagner planned and put on the inaugural event and it went really well.

He also mentioned utilizing a new rule change during the round.

“It was nice to be able to fix marks on the green,” Mitrovich said. “You’re going to get undulations because the greens are wet at this time of year, so it was nice to be able to fix them and get a true putt.”
