VICTORIA, B.C. — The Peninsula men rallied from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to tie the University of Victoria 2-2, but the Vikes were able to eke out a hard-fought win with a goal in stoppage time.
The University of Victoria is a five-year university that plays against schools as big as the University of British Columbia and the University of Saskatchewan.
Cesar Gervacio, one of Peninsula’s best goal scorers from last year, scored both goals for the Pirates in the season-opening scrimmage. His first goal was assisted by newcomer Manuel Galiano (from Savano, Italy). His second goal was assisted by Adrian Benitez.
“It was a good scrimmage for both teams. It was a highly contested game. Good preparation for both teams,” said coach Jake Hughes . “It was a pleasure to go over there and play. We gave them a good game.”
The Pirates won the Northwest Conference’s North Division last year, losing in the playoffs in penalty kicks in the NWAC quarterfinals to eventual champion Tacoma Community College.
