COLLEGE HOOPS: Peninsula women lose season-opener

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula women fell in their season opener at the First Federal Pirate Classic Friday night, scoring just 13 points in the second half in a 52-44 loss to a 3-1 Centralia team.

Ashlynn Sharp, a freshman from Nevada, led the Pirates with four 3-pointers and 14 points, while Jamelia Clark scored 12 points while pulling down nine boards and Tiffani Smith had 11 points to go with seven rebounds.

Kayla Alvarez led the Pirates with four assists.

The Pirates had a 31-30 lead at halftime, but were outscored 22-13 in the second half, managing just 4 for 25 (16 percent) from the field in the second half.

The Peninsula women (0-1) play in their second game of the Pirate Classic at 1 p.m. today against Yakima.
