Because of their recent exploits in track and field, Port Angeles’ Kynzie Deleon and Devin Edwards are our co-Athletes of the Week.
Deleon, just a freshman, specializes in distance running and has won the 800-meter run three times this season, while also winning the 3,200-meter race twice. Showing her versatility, she also helped the Roughriders girls’ 4×400 relay team take first at the Forks Lions Club meet Saturday. That’s six first-place finishes in four meets for Deleon.
Edwards, a junior, has won the shot put four times this season, and had a dominant performance in the field events at the North Olympic meet on Friday, winning the shot put, discus and javelin. That also adds up to six first-place results in her four meets.
The Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store, serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
