Hope O’Connor

Port Angeles’ Hope O’Connor has been a big part of the Roughriders’ 13-game winning streak, doing damage at the plate and on the mound.

As a hitter, O’Connor went 12 for 18 (.667 batting average) over an eight-day stretch from April 20-28, including 5 for 7 (with two walks thrown in) during a doubleheader sweep of Anacortes and Lynden this weekend.

More importantly, she has won three games as a pitcher, including the Lynden game Saturday that was tied when she came in to relieve.

O’Connor also came in the third inning against second-place Olympic on April 20 and blanked the Trojans over five innings, giving up just four hits while striking out seven.

O’Connor also went 3 for 5 against Olympic with three RBIs. Against Sequim on April 25, she was 4 for 4 with a double and pitched three innings, giving up just one hit and one run. O’Connor also picked up a victory in relief against Sequim earlier this season.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
