Peninsula repeats as cup champion

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula Golf Club repeated as Peninsula Cup champions after defeating teams from three other North Olympic Peninsula golf clubs on its own course.

The competition format counted the two lowest gross scores and the eight lowest net scores on each 12-man team.

Peninsula totaled 719 strokes in the competition, 25 better than second-place Port Townsend Golf Club (744), with Cedars at Dungeness (751) third and SkyRidge Golf Course (790) fourth.

Peninsula’s Mark Mitrovich shot a 6-under-par gross score of 66 to lead all players, while Gary Thorne added a gross 74 for the winners.

Cedars General Manager and Director of Golf Bill Shea shot a 5-under-par 67 to lead his team.

Fall scramble set

SEQUIM — SkyRidge Golf Course will host a two-person Fall Scramble tournament on Saturday.

The 18-hole event is open to the first 36 teams. Cost is $60 per team and there is a $30 honey pot per team with gross and net winners. In case of a tie in either division, a sudden-death playoff will be held.

The entry fee includes green fees, range balls, KPs, a team long putt competition and a chili and biscuits feed after play.

No handicap is needed. The tournament is open to all players.

Golf carts are available for $13 per seat.

PC volleyball league

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Volleyball League, a competitive indoor coed league for adult volleyball players, will kick off its 23rd year on Nov. 9 at the Peninsula College Gym.

Teams can secure a spot in the Thursday night league, and individuals can get their names on a list to be placed on teams, by contacting Rick Ross at rross@pencol.edu or 360-417-6533.

Players must be age 16 or older.

The entry fee of $300 per team is due Nov. 16.
