OPRA rowers place at largest regatta in West

SEATTLE — Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association youth rowers recently competed on a gorgeous fall day in the largest regatta on the West Coast, the 39th Head of the Lake Regatta on Lake Washington.

In the men’s junior races earlier this month, Nathan Mishler finished fourth with a time of 21 minutes, 28 seconds in his 1x race.

Zach Gavin and Daniel Weaver placed 11th in 21:23 in their 2x and in the under 17 coxed 4x coxswain Shannon Callahan led boys Jack Feingold, Vince Pavlak, Jake McGovern and Tyler Turner to a 10th-place finish with a time of 22:11.

In the boys U17 2x, Jake McGovern and Tyler Turner came in 12th.

In the women’s junior races, Emily Sirguy and Emily Bundy were sixth in the 2x at 24:14 and U17 2x rowers Lisa Martin and Ella Ventura finished fourth in 24:32.

Maria England finished third with a time of 29:17 in the women’s open 1x.

In the parent-child 2x, Scott and Angelica Kennedy finished third with a time of 28:46.

This was the last race for the fall season for the OPRA juniors.

OPRA will be volunteering and fundraising around town this winter as they prepare to move and improve its Ediz Hook boathouse.
