AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Graham sets single-game scoring mark for Peninsula College women’s soccer; Fun run in Forks on Saturday

Graham records record 5 goals in Pirates’ win

EVERETT — Sophomore Taylor Graham set a new Peninsula College women’s soccer single-game scoring record with five goals in the Pirates’ 12-0 NWAC North Region victory over Everett on Wednesday.

Graham’s feat is even more impressive considering she scored the five goals in just 47 minutes of playing time according to the game’s official box score.

Samantha Oliveira added two goals for the Pirates (2-0-0, 4-2-0) in the road victory.

Peninsula peppered the Trojans with 30 shots, 23 of them on goal.

Andrea Kenagy (two saves) and Chloe Keenan-Merlo (one save) combined in net to earn the shutout for the Pirates.

In the men’s match, Peninsula fell 2-1 to Everett.

The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead when Mason Haubrich scored in the third minute on an assist by Yuki Lavole.

But Peninsula (1-1-0, 2-3-0) allowed the Trojans’ Aaron Byrne to score two goals, the tying score in the 18th minute and the eventual game winner in the 74th, in the loss.

Peninsula will host a “Youth Soccer Day” doubleheader against Skagit Valley on Saturday with the women playing at noon and the men following at 2 p.m. Everyone age 17 and younger will be admitted free to the matches and there will be special contests at halftime.
