PORT ANGELES — Four World War II-era airplanes are scheduled to land at William R. Fairchild Memorial Airport at about noon today.
A B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell and P-51 Mustang fighter will be featured at the airport through Friday afternoon as the Wings of Freedom Tour makes its eighth stop in Port Angeles.
Members of the public can view the classic warbirds up close or walk through the heavy bombers during the three-day event.
The Port of Port Angeles, which operates the airport, will host an array of activities on the tarmac today.
The cost of entry to the Collings Foundation’s living history display is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.
Half-hour flights on the B-25 Mitchell “Tondelayo” are available for $400.
Half-hour flights on the B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine-O-Nine” or B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” are $450 per person.
Flight training with stick time on the P-51 Mustang “Betty Jane” fighter is $2,200 for 30 minutes or $3,200 for one hour.
Because the Collings Foundation is a nonprofit, paid flights are tax-deductible.
Wings of Freedom made previously stops in Port Angeles in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
The theme for this year’s stop is “Salute to Veterans,” Wings of Freedom area coordinator Alan Barnard has said.
In addition to the historic airplanes, a vintage car show will be held on the tarmac today.
A no-host barbecue dinner will be in the west block hangar from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The band Fat Chance will perform in an adjacent hangar from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
