Truck-motorcycle wreck west of Lake Crescent sends man to Seattle hospital

Child also brought to Olympic Medical Center after head-on crash

PORT ANGELES — A man was flown to Harborview Medical Center with a head injury after a head-on wreck involving a motorcycle and pickup truck west of Lake Crescent on Sunday afternoon.

The man’s 7-year-old son was transported to Olympic Medical Center as well, said Mike DeRousie, assistant chief for Clallam County Fire District No. 2.

The wreck was reported at about 3:56 p.m. about a mile and a half up U.S. Forest Service Road 2918, about 4 miles west of Lake Crescent.

DeRousie said that the man and child — whose identities have not been released — were each wearing helmets and that the father was conscious when first responders arrived.

The wreck happened as the bike turned a corner and hit an oncoming Toyota Tacoma, DeRousie said. The driver of the truck told first responders the truck was probably going about 15 mph to 20 mph when it hit the motorcycle.

The driver of the truck hit the brakes just before the wreck.
