Strait Shot to run on holidays

PORT ANGELES — Due to high ridership over Thanksgiving weekend, Clallam Transit will operate its Strait Shot bus to Bainbridge Island on Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, officials said.

The Strait Shot will run on a Sunday schedule Sunday and Monday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

The bus will leave the Port Angeles Gateway Center at 3:15 p.m. to arrive at the Bainbridge Island Ferry terminal at 5:15 p.m.

The return trip leaves the ferry terminal at 6:15 p.m. to arrive in Port Angeles at 8:10 p.m.

The cash fare is $10 one way for adults and $5 for youth and anyone with a valid pass.

Clallam Transit will provide no fixed-route, dial-a-ride or Clallam Connect service Sunday and Monday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The administrative office will be closed on those days.

Likewise, Jefferson Transit will provide no service on the Christmas or New Year’s Day holidays.

Clallam Transit and Jefferson Transit will run on regular schedules Tuesday and Jan. 2.

Clallam Transit officials said The Strait Shot broke single-trip and daily ridership records Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, with 37 passengers on the morning westbound trip and 74 riding throughout the day.

The Strait Shot became Clallam Transit’s first out-of-boundary service when it launched in June.

It stops at the Sequim Transit Center, Blyn, Discovery Bay, Poulsbo and the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort on the way to Bainbridge Island.

“By offering afternoon trips on the Monday holidays, Clallam County residents and visitors can return from the long weekends without the stresses of driving or ferry lines,” Clallam Transit Operations Manager Steve Hopkins said in a news release.

“Also, New Year’s Eve revelers can reach their destinations with plenty of time to relax before the fireworks displays in Seattle and Port Angeles. The return the following afternoon makes an overnight excursion both convenient and inexpensive.”

Strait Shot fares can be paid at the bus or on Clallam Transit’s new mobile app at www.tokentransit.com.

There are no reservations for The Strait Shot.

Passengers can plan their trips at www.clallamtransit.com or by calling 360-452-4511 ext. 2.

To plan a trip on Jefferson Transit, go to www.jeffersontransit.com or call 360-385-4777.
