SEQUIM — Seven students from Sequim schools earned the right to compete in a national history contest in Washington, D.C., with first- or second-place finishes in state competition over the weekend.
It is the first time Sequim students have qualified for the national competition.
The state contest was held Friday and Saturday at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Three Sequim teams earned the awards for their projects, based this year’s theme “Revolution, Reaction and Reform.”
“To have that level of success is just incredible,” said Tricia Billes, who teaches language arts/history at Sequim Middle School.
“These students are learning college skills, and they’re having a lot of fun, too.”
