OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Workers on the project of rehabilitating U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent will take a break for the Fourth of July holiday.
Paving is planned earlier in the week.
Weather permitting, paving will continue Monday on the west end of the project zone between mileposts 221 and 224 in the westbound lane, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokesperson, in a press release.
Paving is expected to switch to the eastbound lane of this section on Tuesday.
Drivers should expect up to half-hour delays each direction during weekday work hours and slower travel times through the 12-mile work zone, Wagner said.
But beginning the Fourth of July on Thursday and continuing through Sunday, travelers around Lake Crescent will not encounter any road work on the holiday weekend.
This is the third year of the three-year project costing $27.5 million.
As of April 1, work hours are restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham is the contractor. The project is being managed collaboratively by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Park Service.
