Port Townsend police seek Seattle man in robbery

PORT HADLOCK — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday was seeking a 27-year-old Seattle man in connection with a Monday morning home invasion and robbery.

Police say that Marco Roman entered the home of Ian Stark, 25, of Port Hadlock on Monday morning, bound Stark with zip ties and duct tape, and then stole many items from the home.

Roman is being sought on investigation of assault, robbery, kidnapping, theft and theft of a firearm, said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective Joe Nole.

Roman is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Nole said he believed Roman is Hispanic.

An arrest warrant was issued for Roman around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, and local investigators said they would contact the Seattle Police Department to assist in making an arrest.

“We will get in touch with authorities in Seattle and see if they can go by his house,” Nole said.

“Of course, he may not be at that location. However, with the warrant out, he will be picked up if he is stopped for anything.”

Stark told investigators that he recognized Roman as the man who he had sold and purchased goods from through the online classified Web site Craigslist.org.

Stark said that each transaction was in good faith and that he never would have guessed Roman would rob him, Nole said.

“The suspect knocked on the door of the victim early Monday morning, and the victim let him into the house because he recognized him,” Nole said.

“Once inside, the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded that the victim use zip ties and duct tape to bind himself and cover his eyes.”

Nole said the robber stole a handgun, money, two laptop computers and some clothing from Stark.

“Once the victim heard the man leave, he broke out of the ties and locked the house and called 9-1-1.”

Nole said it was unlikely that the suspect was still in Jefferson County after the attack because the man was unfamiliar with the area but that he should be considered armed.

Nole asks anyone with any information about the incident to phone him at 360-385-3831, ext. 747, or e-mail him at jnole@co.jefferson.wa.us.
