For those living in Victoria, B.C., a Canada Day tradition that has been around for the last 19 years is to ride to the top of Hurricane Ridge near Port Angeles on July 1.
About 40 hardy cyclists from the Victoria area came across on the early Coho ferry Sunday to ride about 18 miles up to the ridge.
They had about four hours to do it and make it back down for the noon ferry home.
The yearly trek is organized only by word of mouth through various cycle shops in the greater Victoria area.
The number of participants was down this year as many had heard of the road construction on Hurricane Ridge Road.
