FORKS — Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction Student representatives and board members are seeking donations for this coming weekend’s auction.
“Everyone has something they can donate. Go look in your garage,” Jerry Leppell, president of the Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction board, told the audience at Wednesday’s Forks Chamber of Commerce meetizng.
The 54th annual Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction will be this coming Saturday and Sunday at the Forks High School Commons, 261 Spartan Ave.
The annual two-day fundraiser raises money for Forks High School graduates, who can apply for scholarships to business school, trade school, beauty school or college at graduation or anytime in the future. The auction is organized by members of the graduating class.
More than $1.8 million has been granted in scholarships.
Donations for the auction will be accepted up to and on the day of the auction, said Cheri Dahlgren, board secretary, on Friday.
Donations are “just steadily coming in” but more are needed, she said.
Leppell, Dahlgren and Vice President JoMarie Miller spoke at the chamber luncheon along with auction student organizers Marshal Grant and Taegan Counsell.
Leppell said that about 1,500 items are usually auctioned. Senior class members have been organized in groups and are currently out seeking donations from area communities.
Last year the auction saw an all-time record take of $130,000.
The Olympic Peninsula Guides’ Association is working with the auction in offering some of their donated items in an online auction prior to the event.
The auction will close at 6 p.m. today.
