SEQUIM — The North Olympic Library System board will consider a draft report on expansion of the Sequim Library when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be at the Sequim Library at 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Library director Margaret Jakubin will present an overview of the project.

The North Olympic Library System oversees public libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay.

PA school policies

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District Board will consider final approval of several policies when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet at Hamilton Elementary School at 1822 W. Seventh St.

It will consider approval on a second reading of policies concerning a safe and orderly learning environment, complaints concerning staff or programs and prohibition of corporal punishment.

The board also will consider approval of a 2018-19 school calendar.

During the meeting, a March financial report will by presented by David Knetchel.

Civil service

PORT ANGELES — The Civil Service Commission will gather for its quarterly meeting 10 a.m. Thursday.

It will meet in City Hall’s Jack Pittis Conference Room at 321 E. Fifth St.

The public is invited to the meeting.

Financial program

PORT ANGELES — The Washington State University Clallam County Extension will present “Profit Mastery: Creating Value and Building Wealth” in a consecutive three-day course beginning Thursday.

Registration is required for the course.

The course will be hosted by the Clallam Economic Development Corporation at the Skills Center at 905 W. Ninth St.

Thursday’s class will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and from Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Presentations focusing on financial statement analysis, cash flow planning, planning for growth, cost, volume and pricing issues, as well as determining suitable financing will be covered.

The program is designed to help owners and managers of small businesses better understand financial management and increase their chances of success, according to a news release.

Free downloads

The North Olympic Library System has partnered with Sync to provide free audiobook downloads for members of the library system.

Sync, a program for ages 13 and older, begins Thursday and runs until July 25.

Each week, two complete audiobook downloads will be available, based upon weekly themes.

Those interested can sign up for notifications by text message, email or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com.

The downloads will be available for only seven days each.

Sync seeks to develop the audience of audiobook listeners by providing free audiobook downloads during the program dates, according to a news release.

Sync titles are delivered through the OverDrive app.

Audiobook downloads are in MP3 format, hosted by OverDrive, and are Mac- and Windows-compatible.

Native plant hike

PORT HADLOCK — The Olympic Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society has planned a hike at Tamanowas

Rock and Anderson Lake State Park at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Event planners urge those interested to sign up.

Hikers will meet at the Tamanowas Rock Sanctuary parking area on Anderson Lake Road.

Directions to the site are “from the intersection of state Highway 19 and Anderson Lake Road proceed 0.5 miles west along Anderson Lake Road. From state Highway 20 proceed 2.1 miles east on Anderson Lake Road. Parking is on the north side of Anderson Lake Road,” according to a news release.

Fred and Ann Weinmann will lead a hike to Tamanowas Rock via the sanctuary.

The walk will take attendees approximately

3 miles with a short steep scramble required, according to the news release.

Plants of mature forests, balds and wetland habitats will be featured.

25 awarded in contest

PORT ANGELES — Twenty-five Port Angeles High School students participated in the school’s winter reading contest and were recently awarded at a luncheon.

The students are Devan Andrew, Aiden Barton, David Burnham, Jacob Butler, Mackenzie Carney, Brynn Clark, Simon Close, Alyssa Dailey-Morse, Hanna DiazDeLeon, Maariyah Dugan, Aiden Franich, Cathryn Golob and Sky Harrison.

Also, Daniel Hornac, Dustin Kendrick, Alliya Kreider, Julia Logston, Jonathan Maestas, James Murphy, Alexandrea Olson, Samantha Rueda, Ashlee Seelye, Eliza Marie Smith, Ethan Wood and Emily Wuest.

The 25 students read 196 books collectively during the contest, with a cumulative total of 70,943 pages, school teacher-librarian Susan McDonald said in a news release.

The contest’s top readers were junior Ashlee Seelye, who read 22 books, and senior James Murphy, who read 12 books.

Sodexo furnished lunch and refreshments for the luncheon at the school’s the library April 12.

Local businesses including Toga’s Soup House, Odyssey Bookshop, and Frugal’s donated more than $200 worth of prizes.
