SEQUIM — The Sequim School District will consider adopting the 2018-19 budget after a public hearing when it meets Monday.
The board will meet at 503 N. Sequim Ave. A budget workshop planned from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. will include the budget public hearing. Action will be considered at the regular session at 6 p.m.
Also at the regular session, the board will elect a new president and vice-president, and consider an agreement with Olympic Personal Growth Center and several policies.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will consider approving a food service contract when it meets Thursday.
The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. for a work session and at 7 p.m. for a regular meeting at the Central Services Building at 216 E. Fourth St.
The board meeting matrix and organizational chart also will be considered.

PA student picked to play with band
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School junior Kinnear Pierzchala has been selected to play with the John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band.
Only 120 high school students are selected nationwide, and Pierzchala was one of two state students to make the band.
He is set to play with the band during the summer at the Faneuil Hall in Boston, Mass.
Pierzchala plays various low brass instruments, including bass trombone, sousaphone, euphonium, trombone, baritone and tuba in the high school band program.
To audition, he submitted an audio recording of him performing a Mozart Concerto on the bass trombone.
The conductor of the 2018 honors band will be Col. Jason Fettig, Director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band of Washington, D.C. Members of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Marching Band and its staff under the direction of Dr. Timothy Todd Anderson and Thom Hannum will serve respectively as clinicians, staff and coaches for the event, according to a news release.
After he graduates from high school next year, Pierzchala is interested in a future career in precision welding.
National honors achievement
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School student Dakota J. Manley has been elected to join The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
The NSHSS recognizes scholars who demonstrate outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment, according to a news release.
NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership.
Throughout member’s schooling to careers, the NSHSS connects scholars with the resources they need to develop strengths and pursue their passions, according to the release.
