NEWS BRIEFS: Holiday services offered at churches across North Olympic Peninsula

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday service speaker will be Timothy West.

His lesson at the church at 2917 E. Myrtle St. is titled “Joy!” West is a Unity prayer chaplain, as well as a youth and family ministry director. A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Child care is available during the service.

QUILCENE

Candlelight service

QUILCENE — Members of the public are invited to Quilcene Bible Church’s candlelight service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Christmas carols will be sung, food will be served and the Hastings family will be featured during the service at the church, 295643 U.S. Highway 101.

PORT ANGELES

Independent Bible Church

The Independent Bible Church will hold its first service in the Upper Room, at 112 N. Lincoln St., at 6 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, two family-oriented services will be held at the church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., after which a candlelight service will be held at 8 p.m.

First Baptist Church

All are welcome to join the First Baptist Church for a time of worship and reflection at its Sunday Christmas Eve service from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The church is at 105 W. Sixth St.

First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles will begin its Christmas Eve schedule with a 10 a.m. service Sunday. The sermon is “Let Us Be Light: Illuminating Faith.” Identical candlelight services will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., featuring a sermon titled “The Light of the World Has Come” and the Festival Choir. The 8:30 p.m. service will include the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

First United Methodist

Sunday services at First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Seventh St., will kick off with a 10 a.m. service. At 4 p.m., the church’s first Christmas Eve service will be “Telling the Story.” At 8 p.m., the church’s second — and final — service will be “Lessons & Carols.”

Queen of Angels

The Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., will hold a Christmas Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. Sunday. At 9 p.m., the church’s Christmas “Midnight Mass” will begin. Both services will feature incense.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal

Christmas Eve and Christmas services will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, Holy Eucharist will be offered at 6 p.m., after which a candlelight eucharist will occur at 9 p.m. with carols preceding. On Monday, a pajama Mass and brunch will be held at 10 a.m.

PA Church of Christ

The public is invited to the Port Angeles Church of Christ’s 10:45 a.m. Sunday service. Following the service at the church, 1233 E. Front St., a tour of two church members’ vintage Christmas village will be held. Hot cocoa, apple cider and Christmas-themed snacks will be served after the walk-through.

Lighthouse Christian

Two Christmas Eve services will be held at the Lighthouse Christian Center on Sunday. Both the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. services will feature worship, communion and a special Christmas message at the center, 304 Viewcrest Ave.

St. Matthew Lutheran

A Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The theme for the service will be “The Brightest Light,” at the church, 132 E. 13th St.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

A festive candlelight service with communion will be held from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Special music will be featured before and during the service at the church, 301 E. Lopez Ave.

SEQUIM

Spiritual Living center

The Sequim Center for Spiritual Living, in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., hosts its annual Community Christmas Candlelighting Service at 7 tonight. Organizers say they’ll enjoy traditional Christmas music, light candles and fellowship over home-baked goodies.

Seventh-day Adventist

Seventh-day Adventist Church of Sequim, 30 Sanford Lane, hosts its Christmas program and worship service at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

King’s Way Foursquare

King’s Way Foursquare Church, 1023 Kitchen-Dick Road, invites the community to the church’s 20th-annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship Service, set for Sunday at 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Calvary Chapel Sequim

The congregation for Calvary Chapel Sequim, 90 Boyce Road, gathers at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to split into two groups — caroling at a retirement home and doing yard work for in-need neighbors. At 9 p.m. the church hosts a candlelight service.

Cornerstone Baptist

Cornerstone Baptist Temple, 44 Joslin Road, hosts two morning services at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday and a children’s play with a reception at 7 that night.

Sequim Bible Church

Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave., hosts its combined Christmas service at 10 a.m. on Christmas Eve with hot cider, coffee and cinnamon rolls available prior at 9:30 a.m. That evening, the church hosts a candlelight service at 6.

Dungeness Lutheran

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., hosts two services on Christmas Eve at 10 a.m. and a candlelight service at 7 p.m.

Sequim Community

On Christmas Eve, Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., hosts a 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service with communion in the fellowship center. A family-friendly service begins at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship center followed by a candlelight service with communion at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Latter-day Saints

The Sequim Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 815 W. Washington St., hosts a joint service for its wards at 10 a.m. featuring music and the spoken Word.

Sequim Valley Nazarene

A regular 11 a.m. service is set at Sequim Valley Nazarene, 481 Carlsborg Road, on Sunday morning, followed by a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m.

Eastern Hills Community

Eastern Hills Community Church, 91 Savannah Lane in Carlsborg, hosts one service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Trinity United Methodist

A Christmas Eve candle-lighting service with a Victorian theme will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The Trinity Singers choir and bell choir will perform, and the congregation will sing carols. Pastor Bill Green’s message, “Redemption Is Possible.” The service will conclude with the lighting of individual candles and the singing of “Silent Night.” At the 10 a.m. service Sunday, the sermon is “The Hope of Christmas Future.”

Sequim Worship Center

Evening worship from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. will be a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Sequim Worship Center, 640 N. Sequim Ave. A morning worship service begins at 10:45 a.m.

Dungeness Community

Normally offering two Sunday morning services, Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, hosts one morning service at 10 a.m. and a 6 p.m. service on Christmas Eve; both will be candlelight services. The nursery will be available for both services but Sunday School classes are canceled.

First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church of Sequim, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, hosts a morning service with communion at 10:45 a.m. on Christmas Eve and a candlelight service at 6 p.m.

Faith Baptist Church

Faith Baptist Church, 7652 Old Olympic Highway, hosts an 11 a.m. Christmas Eve morning service and a 5 p.m. evening service.

Olympic View Church

Olympic View Church of God, 503 N. Brown Road, hosts one service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

St. Joseph’s church

St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., hosts Mass at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and at 9 a.m. Christmas Day.

Sequim Valley Foursquare

Sequim Valley Foursquare hosts a special outdoor candlelight caroling and devotion event at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve at the corner of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue. At 7 p.m. they’ll host a service at the church, 9090 Old Olympic Highway.

Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St., hosts two candlelight services on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. with no morning services. On Christmas day, holy communion is at 10:30 a.m.

Newlife Church

Newlife Church celebrates “Outrageous Christmas: 25 Days of Outrageous Kindness” with a Christmas Eve service from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. The event is free; register and save a seat at www.eventbrite.com/e/christmas-in-sequim-tickets-39990810591.

Olympic Bible Fellowship

A Candlelight Christmas Eve Communion Service is set at Olympic Bible Fellowship, 414 N. Sequim Ave., starting at 6:30 p.m. A morning service is held earlier in the day at 10 a.m.

Unitarian Universalist

Attendees to Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road, Agnew, meet at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve to remember the history and the story that says, “Hope was born this night in the form of a baby named Jesus.” The community is invited to join the fellowship for a celebration of the Christmas gift.

St. Luke’s Episcopal

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., hosts a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. with a Christmas carol sing-along prior at 6:45 p.m. On Christmas Day a morning service is held at 10 a.m.

The Fifth Avenue

The Fifth Avenue welcomes Pastor Julia McKenna-Blessing with a Christmas message of “The Greatest Gift” for a candlelight service on Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m.

FORKS

St. Anne Catholic Church

St. Anne Catholic Church will begin its Christmas Eve Mass with carols at 10 p.m. Sunday. Mass will begin at 10:30 p.m. at the church, 511 Fifth Ave., and conclude at 11:30 p.m.

PORT TOWNSEND

First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend, 1111 Franklin St., will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. Sunday.

New Life Church

A candlelight communion service will begin at 9 p.m. Sunday at New Life Church Port Townsend, 1636 Hastings Ave.

St. Mary Star of the Sea

St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church will begin its Sunday services with a bilingual family mass at 5:30 p.m. At 10 p.m., a Christmas vigil mass will be held at the church, 1335 Blaine St. Incense will be used during both services.

Trinity United Methodist

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St., at 6 p.m. Sunday.

San Juan Baptist Church

A Christmas Cantata, “Little Lion Little Lamb,” presented by the San Juan Baptist Church’s choir will kick off its Sunday services at 10 a.m. The day will close with a Christmas Eve service at the church, 1704 Discovery Road.

St. Herman of Alaska

A festive vigil and divine liturgy of St. Basil the Great will begin at St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox at 10 p.m. Sunday.

Following the liturgy at the church, 1407 30th St., a blessing of Christmas baskets and a festal meal will be held.

Unity Center of PT

The Unity Center of Port Townsend welcomes the public to to its candle lighting service at 6 p.m. Sunday.

A live Nativity scene will be on display during the service at Unity, 3918 San Juan Ave., as well as music. A reception will be held following the service and event organizers urge attendees to bring sweet or savory finger-foods to share.

First Baptist Church

A Christmas Eve candlelight communion service will be held at 6 p.m Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Port Townsend. The service will conclude at 7 p.m. at the church, 1202 Lawrence St.

Grace Lutheran Church

The public is invited to Grace Lutheran Church’s candlelight eucharist at 7 p.m. Sunday. The church is at 1120 Walker St.

Unitarian Universalist

The Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will begin its Sunday service schedule with a children’s Christmas Eve candlelight service at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Parents and grandparents are welcome to join their children for the service at the church, 2333 San Juan Ave. At 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., identical candlelight services will be held.

During the services the Revs. Bruce Bode and Kate Lore will give a Christmas homily, with guest soloist Laurel Sprigg singing.

The services will conclude with lighting candles and singing of “Silent Night.”

Calvary Community

Calvary Community Church at 82 Romans Road will hold a candlelight service from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
