More Hood Canal Bridge closures begin Monday

SHINE — A project to replace or repair equipment that operates the Hood Canal Bridge’s drawspan will cause intermittent closures Monday through Friday nights.

During the closures, crews will open the bridge to traffic on occasion to help relieve congestion, according to the state Department of Transportation. The openings to traffic are unscheduled and performed as work allows:

Scheduled night intermittent closures are:

• 10 p.m. Monday until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

• 10 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

• 10 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

• 10 p.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday.

• 10 p.m. Friday 19, until 4 a.m. Saturday.

The closures could mean that Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette newspapers could be delayed.

The newspapers are printed in Everett and brought over the bridge in the early morning hours.

Transportation anticipates that an additional round of night bridge closures will be needed.

Dates and times for those closures will be announced as they are scheduled.

Drivers are encouraged to sign up for email updates at https://tinyurl.com/ PDN-DOTupdates and check the Hood Canal Bridge webpage at http://www.wsdot.com/traffic/hoodcanal/ for timely information.
